What does academic decathlon do?
"Academic Decathlon stresses educational opportunity, intellectual experience, and academic excellence."
Students are categorized by their previous GPA's into three categories (GPA level from least to greatest): Varsity, Scholastic, and Honors.
All Academic Decathlon students are required to study and prepare for competitions that will test them in ten different categories:
Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Literature, Mathematics, Music, Science, Social Science, and Speech (Speech is also divided into two types: a prepared speech, and an impromptu speech). These students not only are tested on these subjects, but also participate in "a culminating event of the competition" called the Super Quiz. The Super Quiz is a timed relay of multiple choice questions consisting of the following six subjects: literature, art, economics, social science, science, and music.
The subjects altogether in the competition come to a score of 10,000 points (the Perfect Score).
